With more than 200,000 deer checked by hunters, it has been a great season for deer hunting in Arkansas. While this season hasn’t set any records, although it comes close, it is clear that conditions were ideal for gun hunting, with several weeks in the season still left for archers. Both the modern gun and muzzle-loader season has ended, which means the amount of hunters in the area is starting to thin out. This gives plenty of room to any hunters who plan on using crossbows or standard bows.
The hunting season for archers lasts until February 28 across the state, but checks your local hunting grounds before heading out. While many of the state’s wildlife refuges and management areas will be open, you can expect some public land to be closing down before the end of the month.
Whether you have been hunting throughout the season or you are just heading out now that there is less competition, you should be mindful of a few things. For starters, deer have been staying in the woods to feed, so don’t expect to see many out in the open. Deer are also moving around, looking for new areas that have food. Just because one spot didn’t have any deer earlier in the season, doesn’t mean it’s not worth rechecking.
We hope that you enjoy the final month of the season and we wish you luck in your hunt. Do you have any memorable hunting stories from the 2014-2015 season? If so, share them with the team at Pluck A Duck!
